Physics education in American high schools is considered to be very outdated. Most of the outrage against physics education comes from the fact that it is an optional course in high school. If you were to look at the content of biology you would find that most of the material is recent for the most part. This is because in the field of biology, there is more content to teach then there would be 20 years ago. A lot of the content that is taught at A-level physics is very old, which is important content to be taught, but there is not a lot of content that has been theorized in recent years that is being taught like dark matter, quantum mechanics, and atomic structure that is more interesting. The use of math and calculus is also being excluded from high school physics which is why people consider physics to be such a difficult course in college. If I were to do this topic for a capstone presentation I would discuss the consequences of students taking physics in college after high school physics and what can be done to prepare students for these courses.
